Often imitated
but never duplicated? THE 2010 Square Foot Show at
AWOL Gallery (Toronto, Canada) is once again set to
become Toronto’s premier summer show! Each year
the Square Foot Show gets bigger and better and this
year is no exception. With hundreds of artists and
over a thousand works of art, AWOL gallery promises
a dynamic visual art experience. Be the first to see
the show at the Gala reception or stand in line (that’s
right, this is one of only a few shows which creates
a line up on opening night) and experience the artist’s
reception, which attracted close to 1000 people at
last year’s event. The SQFT experience is a
fun, visual delight. The shows appeal is in the collective
creative energy of having hundreds of local, national,
and international artists in all media showcasing
their work in a central location.
The Square Foot Show, an annual group exhibition is
an incredible networking event for artists to gain
exposure to collectors, curators, media, other artists
and the general public. This is Square Foot’s
eighth year and the AWOL Collective is aiming to make
this one the best ever! Like 2009’s exhibition,
we will hold The Square Foot Show at both an off-site
venue called the Lower Ossington Theatre (LOT) at
100A Ossington and at AWOL Gallery at 76 Ossington.
Together these venues can accommodate both the numerous
artworks and the hundreds of people who come to view
this exhibit every year - In 2009 over 800 artists
participated with over 1500 pieces exhibited!
Square Foot brings together artists from a variety
of backgrounds, disciplines and career levels and
offers their work at $225 per piece. It provides the
established artist a distinctive group show opportunity
and is also a venue for emerging artists to have their
work discovered by galleries and collectors alike.
This year AWOL will be hosting a ticketed gala preview
on Friday August 20 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Tickets
are $20.00 and proceeds from ticket sales will go
to local charities, The Daily Bread Food Bank and
Arts For Children and Youth.
The AWOL Gallery Square Foot Show has spawned numerous
imitation shows in Toronto and throughout North America.
However,? it has been AWOL’S commitment to a
non-juried, affordable, international community exhibition
that has continually kept the show unique, fun, and
versatile.
?Who are these guys? AWOL Gallery and Studios is celebrating
its 11th year of showcasing Contemporary Art in Toronto.
The Ossington Avenue? location houses the gallery
and fourteen studio spaces and has been a pioneer
of the Queen West Gallery District and Ossington revitalization.
This seven-artist collective has produced? hundreds?
of? exhibitions, as well as 10 grand? annual group
shows of varying formats since it’s inception
in 1999.
